Betsy DeVos – An Influential Political Leader Committed To The Cause Of Education Reform

Betsy DeVos, current Education Secretary of the United States in the President’s Donald Trump’s cabinet, is one of the most progressive education and social reformers in the country today. Betsy and her husband, Dick DeVos, have donated millions towards the causes they feel for, which includes education, health, and human rights. The couple made the donation of over $11 million in 2015 alone. Betsy DeVos has been consistently funding the conservative campaigns over the last few years to strengthen her position and run for the cabinet post.

Betsy and her husband have been active in Republican politics for many years, just like their family, which has been a consistent Republican supporter for ages. The total donations made by DeVoses, including all the four sons and the elder DeVos, amounts to $104 million in charity. The lifetime contributions of the DeVoses totaled to over $1.33 Billion.

Betsy and her husband have made it clear through their donations that one of their top priorities and area of focus is Education. They allotted over $3 million in 2015 to educational causes and made contributions of another $357,000 to various organizations that support reforms Betsy stands for in the area of education and school choices. Betsy is born to Edgar and Elsa Prince and belongs to a long line of Dutch ancestry.

Her parents were a billionaire and a noted philanthropists and industrialist, widely known for being the owners of famous Prince Corporation. She completed her studies at Calvin College, where she graduated in Business Management and Political Science. During her days in college, she has been active in college level politics and was pretty popular.

The DeVoses has been popular with the media for many years, and the recent reports suggest that the couple has made donations over $139 million over the years. One of their recent contributions of $400,000 went in support of building a new educational website by Campbell Brown, who is a retired CNN Anchor. The donations were made in the name of Loudspeakers Media Inc, which is the company owned by Campbell Brown. Betsy and Dick DeVos runs a foundation together called Dick and Betsy Foundation, through which most of their aids and donations are made.

Betsy DeVos recently doled out $150,000 to Success Academy Charter Schools, $5,0000 to a non-profit charter school management company, GREAAT Schools, $100,000 to Alliance for School Choice, and $750,000 to American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy. She even provided $10,000 for Institute for Justice, $6,5000 to Intercollegiate Studies Institute, $113,500 to Ferris State University, $500,000 to University of Maryland College Park Foundation, $350,000 to Grand Rapids Christian School Association, $250,000 to John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and more. Betsy DeVos aims to bring the positive change in the sphere of education in the country as Education Secretary and is committed to the cause.
