Dr. Eric Forsthoefel Details Some of the Challenges Emergency Rooms Face On a Daily Basis

Since graduating from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2012, Dr. Eric Forsthoefel has seen his share of challenging situations. He has seen plenty of accidents and pressing medical conditions for sure. He also has seen many examples of a nationwide problem: individuals coming for non-urgent Care. Doctor Forsthoefel realized why this was such a problem even fresh out of medical school. He noted the reasons why during a recent interview. “Because of a chronic lack of access to primary care medicine, many patients turn to the emergency department,” he said.

However, Dr. Forsthoefel realizes that part of his profession is not just medical care but efficiency and leadership as well. Even in non-emergent conditions, emergency room physicians everywhere realize that they must provide paramount care to each patient that walks in the door. Dr. Forsthoefel knows that a detailed plan is needed for any emergency room, and his is no different.

First of all, he knows that organization is critical. Forsthoefel and his staff are committed to ensuring that each patient that visits his ER will have access to a nurse, technician, physician and other support staff. In many cases patients that go to the ER for non-emergency reasons also require a bed. If anything, Dr Forsthoefel realizes this is a challenge.

Perhaps one of the most pressing concerns for him and other emergency room physicians would be the depletion of resources this causes for ERs across the country. Dr. Forsthoefel will be the first one to tell you that the situation is becoming critical.

However, Dr. Forsthoefel and other physicians seem to have their pulse on the causes of these visits. These doctors recommend taking a multidisciplinary approach to the problem because there are a lot of factors that go into visiting an emergency room for regular care. Doctor Forsthoefel recommends making insurance easier to acquire, thus easing some of the burden. He knows that in our great country a solution will definitely be found. Necessity has always been the mother of invention.
