The MLB waiver wire is one of the most active places in all of fantasy sports. No matter how well you draft on opening day, while hopefully referencing Fantasy Alarm, you are going to need additional help. The MLB season is a drain on players and many will slump, get injured, or simply stop playing decent baseball. Today we are going to look at a pair of waiver wire gems that could just end up saving your season.
Kennys Vargas, 1B/DH – Minnesota Twins
Finding a competent power hitter who can also swing for average is pretty tough in this league so there is no reason that Kennys Vargas should be sitting on the wire. Still, Vargas is a no-name player at the moment and he is available in over 90% of leagues. Vargas has opposite field power and he should be comfortably sitting in the Minnesota batting order for the reason of the year. Vargas is getting hot, hitting .270 as of late May, and he’s starting to pile up those big bombs. Add him to your roster now and let it pay dividends — we’re talking 20+ home run potential.
Luis Perdomo, SP – San Diego Padres
Finding starting pitching on the waiver wire can be a tough proposition but Luis Perdomo will make it easier. Owned in less than 5% of leagues, Perdomo is a young hurler for San Diego who has a ton of upside. Perdomo has 5 to 7 K range on an average night and he should progressively get better as the year continues right in the heart of your MLB lineup.
